When the weather is bad and civilization distant, the best way to count sea creatures or survey fires or oil spills and take care of borders can be Cabook’s UAV-based solutions. The Canadian Department of National Defence recently announced a need to improve monitoring and surveillance in the Arctic to enhance situational awareness and support missions in the region. Arctic surveillance has many benefits for national defence. However, there are also significant civilian benefits stemming from these contracts. The upcoming RCM will be able to, for example, detect centimetre changes in ground subsidence or ice thickness. We aim to further explore this capability by investigating the feasibility of detecting ocean waves in sea ice. Other applications include monitoring infrastructures such as pipelines, geo-hazard tracking, and following glacier motion in the Arctic areas.
